This one-day event is intended to celebrate the African-American Cultural Celebration of Kwanzaa. Its goal is to educate the community, and engage youth in culturally relevant traditions. We are also fundraising for Tamu Sana Kanyama Preparatory Academy - an Independent High School dedicated to inspiring a commitment to scholarship, family, and community while maintaining a standard of excellence manifested through academics, creative arts and media technology.
Our theme is a Winter Wonderland and we’ll have smores, hot chocolate, hot cider, guest speakers, storytellers, drummers, and more!
We’re expecting more than 100 event attendees comprised of students, parents and educational leaders who care about community building and preserving culture; and we’ll reach at least 350 more supporters across all social media channels.

We're fundraising in support of our annual Kwanzaa Celebration. During this event we engage youth and educate the community through storytelling, group discussions, live dance, and African drumming.
Kwanzaa Event 2021 $ 3,200 annual program cost
$32 per participant (100 participants)

Marcy Scholarship Fund Granted $25,000 to Support Brooklyn's Finest Students
With the support and votes of their Brooklyn community and partners nationwide, Marcy Scholarship Fund was granted $25,000 in the State Farm Neighborhood Assist Competition.
Marcy Houses Memorial Scholarship Fund exists to encourage and motivate post-secondary students from the Marcy Houses in Brooklyn, NY, and strategize with them to complete a course of study.
Their vision is higher education, economic achievement and social well-being for all Marcy Houses students. In service of this vision, they provide financial support and mentorship to first and second year college or trade school students who live in Marcy Houses.
King Day of Service | A National Holiday
Congressman John Conyers (MI) and Representative Shirley Chisholm (NY) pushed Congress for 15 years for a national holiday to honor the legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legislation was passed in 1983 and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan.
Senator Harris Wofford (PA) and Congressman John Lewis (GA) introduced the 'King Holiday and Service Act' to challenged us to transform MLK Day into MLK Day of Service. The legislation was signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1994.
King Day of Service is meant to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.

COATES, Inc. founder Catisha Toney is dedicated to supporting educational equity and excellence in underserved communities. She's an experienced educator, college and career consultant and nonprofit leader.
Along with COATES volunteers, she’ll be providing socks, hats and gloves to homeless individuals and families in Lake County, Indiana on Dec 19th. They are providing essentials for our friends in need. Your support is appreciated.

DevoCenter Digital Changemakers is for women who are struggling to bring their community service project ideas to life. We're looking for women with bright ideas and the desire to make a difference in the lives of those around them.
Complete our short survey and we'll select four women to join us for free to help us launch the pilot program.
Changemakers 2021 begins in February and offers:

1st Annual Stakeholders Meeting
In September 2020 DevoCenter received 501c3 status, and in November we held our 1st Annual Stakeholders Meeting.
We invited board members, staff and program partners to meet online to discuss our progress and goals for the year ahead.
I’m really grateful and proud of the fact that I have a great group of friends and women who support me in life and in my business. I've poured my heart into bringing this vision to life. I recognize that this work is strengthened by many different perspectives, so their questions, insights and feedback are of extraordinary value.
